On March 17th 2020, Gorm Frimannslund, CEO of Bane NOR, issued the following message to our subcontractors and suppliers.
Dear subcontractors and other suppliers,
The world, this country and the construction business are facing a highly demanding situation with the corona pandemic. Life, health and safety are our primary concerns in everything we do, and Bane NOR is treating the situation that has arisen with the utmost seriousness. As a large state-owned construction client, Bane NOR has a responsibility for contributing to the national objective of preventing infection, while maintaining activity in our projects as far as possible.
Due to the extraordinary measures from Norwegian and European authorities, we have nevertheless decided to cancel the competitive bidding for the Kleverud-Sørli project. A decision on starting up the project will not be made until we know more about the consequences of this extraordinary situation for the rest of Bane NOR’s project portfolio.
By maintaining the level of activity in ongoing projects we are contributing towards keeping society going. Maintaining activity in the supplier chain is important to get through the crisis to secure as many jobs as possible. Therefore, we are grateful to have so many professional partners in our subcontractors and suppliers when the circumstances are what they are.
The corona situation that has arisen, with the ensuing regulations from the authorities, is on the whole beyond both our and your control. The incident will thus in a number of cases fall within contractual provisions of force majeure. So far we are impressed by your persistence, and Bane NOR is confident that together, we will find good solutions to the situation we are facing. Good dialogue in projects is a key factor for achieving this.
I hope your project teams perceive Bane NOR as a forthcoming construction client and that the dialogue in our projects is good. If there are specific issues you would like to raise, please notify your contact in Bane NOR.
Take good care of yourselves, your families and your staff.
