The Drammen-Kobbervikdalen project includes 10 km of double-track from Drammen to Kobbervikdalen. Drammen station will be rebuilt, with new platforms and tracks. Procurement on the last of the main contracts are underway, and will be awarded, and several contracts will be awarded shortly.
Changes to contract strategy
Bane NOR has reviewed and made new changes to the project's contract strategy in the spring of 2021 due to postponement of the construction on Gulskogen station.
About the project
Bane NOR is planning the construction of 10 km of double-track from Drammen to Kobbervikdalen, as part of the ongoing modernization of the Vestfold Line. The project is complex, with extensive civil works, multidisciplinary technical railways works, and a number of demanding construction phases. The construction works are split into several main contracts.
UDK 01 - Rock tunnel and open stretches
The scope of work includes the 6-kilometre double track rock tunnel, the tunnel approach and the open stretches connecting to the existing Kobbervikdalen track. Tracks and other railway engineering installations are not included in the contract. Bane NOR has awarded the contract to Veidekke Entreprenør AS.

UDK 02 - Concrete tunnel and soil tunnel
The scope of work includes a "cut and cover" concrete tunnel from the branch towards the Vestfold line from Drammen. This tunnel is built with an open construction pit. The concrete tunnel passes into a soil tunnel built in loose deposists. Bane NOR has awarded the contract to Veidekke Entreprenør AS.
UDK 03 - Civil works Drammen station – Sundhaugen
The scope of work includes all civil works between Drammen station and Sundhaugen. The contract will be awarded shortly.
UDK 05 – Tracks and catenary
The scope of work includes tracks and catenary works between Drammen station and Sundhaugen. The contract will be awarded shortly.
UDK 06 – Electricity and telecom
The scope of work includes electricity and telecom works between Drammen station and Sundhaugen. The contract will be awarded shortly.
UDK 07 – Signaling NSI–63
The scope of work includes rebuilding of existing signaling system NSI-63 in the project area.
UDK 09 Signaling ERTMS
The project agreement includes construction and assembling of the ERTMS signaling system in the project area.
UDK 11- Catenary works Kobbervikdalen – Holm
The scope of work includes an upgrade of the catenary system between Kobbervikdalen – Holm. More information about the contract will be made available at a later time.
UDK 30 Local noise-mitigation measures
The scope of work includes noise-mitigation measures in the project area. The awarded contracts are divided in different areas, and works are ongoing.
UDK 31 Demolition and removal of existing railway
The scope of work includes demolition and removal of railway tracks on the existing route for the Vestfold line between Drammen station and Skoger. More information about the contract will be made available at a later time.
The project includes several smaller contracts. These contracts include important preparatory works, such as:
UDK 28 – Preparatory technical railway works. The contract is expected to be signed in March 2019.
UDK 33 – Preparatory groundwork and substructure works. The contract was signed in January 2020 (awarded to NRC)
All calls for tender will be announced through Bane NORs procurement system, using TED and/or the TransQ pre-qualification system.
BIM - model-based design
The project is using model-based-design and BIM-enabled software.
