The EPC Ski contract signed

The Norwegian National Rail Administration and the Spanish construction group Obrascón Huarte Lain S.A. have signed the third EPC contract for the Follo Line Project, currently the largest infrastructure project in Norway.

The approximately 2.3 billion NOK contract was signed by Europe Area Director Mr. José Emilio Pont Pérez from Obrascón Huarte Lain S.A. (OHL), Deputy Director General Mr. Gunnar Løvås and Project Director Mr. Erik Smith from the Norwegian National Rail Administration (Jernbaneverket).

- OHL has become our third main partner to make this mega project a success. We are looking forward to start the main works at Ski and we are aware that many residents in the Ski area will follow the construction work closely. OHL has experience from execution of high-speed railway further south in Europe, and it is a pleasure to welcome the company to Norway, underlines Project Director Mr. Erik Smith on behalf of the Norwegian National Rail Administration and the Follo Line Project.

OHL is starting the work immediately.

Companies from all over Europe and Asia have participated to take part in the Follo Line Project. The project is split into the six following main EPC*) contracts: EPC Oslo S (two contracts), EPC TBM, EPC D&B, EPC Ski and Signal.

 Most of the preparatory works for the Follo Line Project, such as alignment of the new line, buildup of the rig areas, blasting of the two access tunnels etc. are now finished. The final preparatory works will be completed during September this year.

 The Follo Line Project, starting from Norway’s capital, is executed by the Norwegian National Rail Administration on behalf of the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications. The project is managed by Project Director Mr. Erik Smith.

Furthermore, it is the first Spanish company which has executed a high-speed section abroad, specifically in Turkey. It has also executed the first construction project to be achieved by a Spanish company in the U.S. railway sector, by extending the Miami subway to Miami International Airport, Florida.

In addition to these achievements, it has executed a railway link between Europe and Asia under the Bosphorus Straits (Turkey), it has participated in the Al Shoula Spain-Saudi Arabia joint venture to execute the second stage of the Haramain High Speed Rail project between Mecca and Medina, and it has undertaken large projects for railway corridors in the Czech Republic, through specialized subsidiaries as OHL ŽS and OHL ŽPSV. Nowadays, OHL Construction has been awarded the reconstruction Dolga Gora-Poljčane stretch of 7.5 kilometers of double track in Slovenia.

The Follo Line Project: Currently Norway´s largest transport project. The project includes a 22 kilometer long new double track line between Oslo Central Station and the public transport hub at Ski, a 20 kilometer railway tunnel (twin bore), extensive works at Oslo Central Station, construction of a new station at Ski and necessary realignment of the existing inbound Østfold line. The Follo Line is scheduled for completion in the end of 2021, and forms the core part of the InterCity development southwards from Oslo.

*) EPC contract: EPC is an acronym for engineering, procurement and construction. This is a recognized contracting arrangement within the construction industry, adapted for the Norwegian National Rail Administration by the Follo Line Project.
