To upgrade and maintain the railway lines, summer trains are parked and passengers are offered rail replacement bus services. See what lines are closed when at the bottom of this article.
With less passengers travelling by train in the summer, it’s time to do necessary work on the railway lines. This summer, in addition to crucial maintenance work, the new Follobane will be connected at Oslo S before opening in December.
Allow plenty of time
Make sure you plan your trip and allow extra time if you are travelling by train in or around Oslo this summer. The train companies offer rail replacement bus services when Bane NOR work on the track.
Travelling by bus can take longer than travelling by train, but the departure and arrival times can also vary from original times. Make sure you have enough time to find where the bus leaves from, and to change from bus to train or vice versa.
The trains might also have to drive at a reduced speed a couple of days after reopening for safety reasons.
What to remember when travelling this summer:
- Plan your journey with Entur, Ruter, Vy, Go-Ahead, SJ Norge or Flytoget
- The bus stop might not be next to the railway platform, and arrival and departure times might differ from the normal train times
- The journey might take longer
- Carry a bottle of water if the sun is shining
- Buy your ticket before boarding the bus
At Oslo S all buses depart from track 19 and arrive at Tollbugata, between the Opera and the Stock Exchange. Look for yellow signs and customer service assistants from the train companies.
